Working the soils and the vines
Above all, a wine is made in the vineyard. Since 1999, the domain has put the necessary methods in place in order to better analyse and understand its soils and vines. This is given us a firm scientific foundation to combine with the winemakers' instinct.
Typical of the region, the domain's 45 ha of vines lie on a range of different soils - argilo-calcaire, volcanic and villafranchien. This diversity allows us to make complex, highly individual wines.
Every year, we analyse the soils carefully to establish if any intervention is needed. During winter, we leave the grass between the vines in order to preserve the structure and the development of the macro and micro-biological life.
Previous planting densities of 3.000 vines/ha have been gradually increased to 4.300 vines/ha. The vines are now all palissées and, thanks to the pruning methods used (Royat, Guyot and Lepine), the yields are controlled.
We aim at minimize the intervention in the vineyards and to use traditionnal products. Thanks to frequent inspections, we are able to tailor the use of phytosanitary products according to each parcel of vines.
